Are You a Candidate for Microneedling?

Microneedling is an aesthetic treatment that addresses and improves a variety of common skin conditions. This treatment also stimulates new collagen production, which can noticeably renew your skin over time and give you a more youthful glow. In short, microneedling is a versatile anti-aging treatment with the potential to take years off of your appearance.

With its numerous benefits, you may be wondering if microneedling is right for you. Serving the communities of Santaquin, Utah, our expertly skilled nurse practitioner, Jennifer Trinidad, DNP, at A Body Renaissance is well-versed in medical aesthetic procedures.

Here, Jennifer discusses microneedling so you can make an informed decision about whether you’re a good candidate for this beneficial skin treatment. Use this as a guide, and then come in for a consultation so she can examine your skin and recommend the best treatments for you.

What exactly is microneedling?

Before getting into the benefits, it’s important to understand the basics of a microneedling treatment. During a facial microneedling appointment, which typically takes about 30 minutes, Jennifer uses a device that contains multiple tiny, sterile needles to puncture your skin.

As she carefully moves the microneedling tool over your skin, the needles create micro puncture wounds. When your body perceives these wounds as damage to the surface of your skin, it sends healing cells to the site. It’s much like what happens when you accidentally cut your finger and your body repairs the cut by forming new skin cells.

Immediately following the microneedling treatment, Jennifer may apply nourishing skin serums to further improve your skin health, or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) derived from your own blood, to speed the healing process.

How you can benefit from microneedling treatments

Microneedling prompts the layer below the surface of your skin to rebuild itself with newer, firmer, younger skin cells. It also stimulates new collagen growth.

This is great for wrinkled, aging skin — especially because your body produces less collagen as you get older, causing your skin to look less firm and supple than it was in your younger years. Essentially, microneedling treatments rejuvenate and renew your skin, hiding imperfections along the way.

Microneedling can erase scars and smooth wrinkles

If you have acne scars, blemishes, and wrinkles, you may be an ideal candidate for microneedling treatments. This procedure is also effective at improving the appearance of:

It’s important to note that microneedling isn’t a quick fix for these common skin concerns, but rather a gradual path to long-term results. After all, you’re growing new, healthy skin from the inside out, and that takes some time. For many, the results are dramatic and worth the wait.

Microneedling is minimally invasive with low discomfort. If you’re concerned about pain, or if you don’t like the idea of injecting dermal fillers into your skin to achieve a more youthful appearance, microneedling can be an optimal solution.

When you might not be a candidate for microneedling

Microneedling may not be for you if you have a bleeding disorder or you’re taking blood-thinners. Be sure to let Jennifer know of your concerns or any health conditions during your consultation, and she explains if you’re at risk for any type of adverse reaction. Additionally, you shouldn’t undergo microneedling treatment while you have an active skin infection.
