Considering a Vampire Facial? We Answer All of Your Questions

Here at A Body Renaissance, located in Payson, Utah, Jennifer Trinidad, a leading Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner, knows that fe

In your early twenties, a consistent skincare routine was probably all it took to keep your complexion fresh and luminous. Fast forward a decade or two, and it may seem as though your efforts simply aren’t sufficient to combat the cumulative effects that time, stress, lifestyle, and the environment inflict on your skin.

Even if you’re blessed with great genes, your skin is bound to lose some of its suppleness, strength, and elasticity with each advancing year. Hormonal changes and years of unchecked sun damage only compound the problem, draining your skin of moisture and leaving it prone to developing dark spots, fine lines, and deep wrinkles.

Here at A Body Renaissance, located in Payson, Utah, Jennifer Trinidad, a leading Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner, knows that feeling comfortable and confident in your own skin starts with a radiant, youthful complexion. That’s why we’re proud to offer the most effective corrective skin treatments available, including the ever-popular vampire facial.

If you’ve got questions about the vampire facial, we’ve got answers. Here’s everything you need to know about how it can help you achieve total skin renewal from the inside out.

What is a vampire facial?

A vampire facial combines two powerful catalysts for collagen and elastin regeneration — microneedling and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy — into a single treatment designed to promote optimal facial rejuvenation and skin renewal, naturally.

By stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, which are the two of the most important proteins that form skin tissue, a vampire facial leaves your skin stronger, tighter, smoother, brighter, and more youthful-looking.

How does a vampire facial work?

To understand how a vampire facial promotes natural skin renewal from the inside out, you need to know a bit more about how each component of the treatment works:

Step 1: Microneedling

Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, uses a highly specialized device that looks something like a pen. Its automated tip contains several ultra-thin, stainless steel needles that are passed evenly over the surface of your skin to create superficial microchannels.

Because these tiny openings trigger your internal healing mechanisms, it causes your body to ramp up its production of collagen and elastin from your deepest dermal layer to the surface of your skin.

By itself, microneedling can do wonders for your skin — in fact, it’s a popular stand-alone treatment in its own right. But because the microchannels it creates provide an ideal way to deliver skin-nourishing nutrients and other beneficial substances directly to your underlying skin cells, microneedling is often used in conjunction with potent skin renewal liquids or serums, including PRP, for maximal effect.

Step 2: PRP therapy

PRP therapy is a regenerative medicine treatment that uses a concentrated preparation of your own blood platelets to stimulate collagen growth and elastin renewal to rejuvenate your skin.

Blood platelets, which are one of the main components of your blood, contain hundreds of growth factors, which are special proteins that stimulate cellular proliferation and promote healing.

PRP is created by spinning a small vial of your blood in a centrifuge machine to separate and concentrate the platelets. Your personal PRP serum has up to five times as many platelets as what’s found in your normal, circulating blood.

When this powerful serum of growth factors and other bioactive substances is carefully applied to the fresh microchannels in your skin, it encourages rapid tissue regeneration and healing.

What is vampire facial like?

One of the first things most people want to know before getting a vampire facial is if it hurts. Fortunately, thanks to the application of a highly effective topical numbing cream about 30-45 minutes prior to treatment, the procedure is quite comfortable from start to finish.

While your skin is numbing, we draw a small amount of blood and prepare your PRP serum. Once your skin is sufficiently desensitized, the microneedling begins. Then, we carefully apply the PRP to the entire area, making sure it penetrates the microchannels. The entire process takes about 90 minutes.

What should I expect after a vampire facial?

Immediately after your vampire facial, your skin will be slightly red and mildly inflamed as your body’s healing mechanisms kick into high gear. You should keep the PRP on your skin for the rest of the day and through the night before washing it off in the morning, as it helps speed up the healing process.

As the redness and minor inflammation begin to subside in 24-48 hours, you’ll see a healthy glow, improved skin tone and texture, and even a certain degree of restored facial volume.

While most people notice a more youthful-looking appearance within two weeks of treatment, you can expect to see complete results in 2-3 months, once full collagen and elastin remodeling has taken place.

If you’re ready for smoother, tighter skin, restored facial volume, and a more even complexion with fewer lines and wrinkles, A Body Renaissance is ready to help. Call the practice at (385) 393-4944, or request an appointment using the convenient online booking tool.
