Laser Hair Removal Q & A

What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is an advanced cosmetic treatment that removes unwanted hair so you don’t have to pluck, shave, or wax. With laser hair removal, you can eliminate unwanted hair from almost anywhere on your body, including your:

  • Face
  • Chest
  • Back
  • Arms
  • Legs
  • Bikini area

At A Body Renaissance, Jennifer uses the Harmony XL Pro intense pulsed light (IPL) laser for hair removal. This advanced aesthetic system offers painless and permanent hair removal. It works by sending concentrated beams of light directly to your hair follicle, destroying the follicle to stop further hair growth.

How do I prepare for laser hair removal?

Jennifer provides specific instructions on preparing for your laser hair removal treatment. She may advise that you not pluck or wax the hair in the planned treatment area for at least six weeks before you begin treatment. These forms of hair removal may take the root of the hair, making your laser hair removal less effective.

She may also recommend you minimize sun exposure to ensure you get the best results.

What can I expect during laser hair removal?

Jennifer performs your laser hair removal at the office. While the Harmony XL Pro laser is well-tolerated by most people, if you’re sensitive to pain or receiving treatment in a delicate area, Jennifer can apply a topical cream before she starts treatment.

Your laser hair removal session takes about 30 minutes. You may experience some redness in the treatment area, but ice packs help reduce this. Jennifer also recommends you continue to minimize exposure to the sun as your skin heals from the laser treatment.

How many treatments do I need?

You should notice a reduction in the hair in the treated area within a month of your laser hair removal session. However, because hair grows in cycles, you may need six to eight treatments to get the best results.

Once the follicle is destroyed by the laser, hair won’t grow back in the treated area.
